During the significant weather event, rainfall in excess of 300mm fell in a 48hr period in Lees Valley and into the headwaters of the Ashley River. The floodwaters caused two major slips, washing away sections of Lees Valley Road. Corde was called upon to get access open as soon as possible to the residents of Lees Valley. Due to our size and capability, we were able to re-divert resources immediately. Our first job was to gain 4wd access within days, and then gain access for the Stock trucks that the local farmers depend upon. Within a couple of weeks full public access was established, an amazing result given the complexity of the location and scale of the slips.

As a result of the 1 in 125 years rainfall event and through Corde’s road maintenance contract with Waimakariri District Council, we reached out to our maintenance arm to offer assistance with the state of emergency.

Corde’s reputation as a skilled and competent earthworks contractor, with significant knowledge and experience, has been built up through the years, and is founded on our ability to deliver innovative and quality projects. Even today, with the Corde carrying a vastly more diverse skill set, we still hold on to our bulk earthworks roots. It was this ability to bring innovation, and think outside the square, that convinced Waimakariri District Council to give Corde control of all works to facilitate access back into Lees Valley for the local families and public.
